According to a recent report by Mandiant’s Security researchers, North Korean hackers have targeted the jobs listed on LinkedIn and Indeed to apply for Crypto Jobs. It is believed that the data from resumes is either stolen or copied from LinkedIn and Indeed platforms and used to apply for the jobs present in the United States which facilitate remote working.
In the month of May, The United States had warned that North Korean Hackers and IT Professionals were trying to find Jobs in the US to work remotely, pretending to be reliable and needed to find work.
According to the United States Advisory, these Professionals claimed to have the prerequisite skills required to work in the sophisticated domain of Crypto currency.
North Korea is one of the top countries in crypto-related crimes according to a report from Coincub. Nearly 10% of North Korea’s Gross Domestic Product [GDP] comes from crime, robbery, and ransomware. Due to large international sanctions, the reason for adoption of cryptocurrencies in the country is, more often than not, related to crime.
Mandiant Researchers believe that these North Korean Professionals can understand and learn about the possible cryptocurrency trends and patterns of the future by analysing the information gathered from the Crypto Currency Firms they would work in.
These could possibly include Ethereum Network Development, Non-Fungible Tokens [NFTs] and potential security lapses. The gathered information would benefit North Korea where Crypto currency laundering would come into picture in the future.
